GREENSBORO, NC - Florida Southern head baseball coach Lance Niekro has been named the ABCA/Diamond Sports NCAA Division II South Region Coach of the Year as announced today by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Niekro is now eligible for the ABCA/Diamond Sports National Coach of the Year honor which will be announced on Tuesday, July 3.
MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern College place 169 student-athletes on the SSC Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll, the Sunshine State Conference office announced on Tuesday morning, placing the Moccasins second among all 11 SSC member institutions. In addition, the Mocs had a conference-best 60 student-athletes finish with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the spring semester, nearly twice as many as second-place Florida Tech (36).
Florida Southern senior Logan Browning has been named the winner of the 2018 Perfect Game Josh Willingham Award as DII baseball's Most Valuable Player. The award is named for former University of North Alabama standout, Josh Willingham, and honors a player who not only excels on the diamond, but in the dugout, clubhouse and practice field as well, and leads his team to national championship caliber status. This season Browning paced the Mocs as they competed for the program's tenth baseball national title. FSC finished the season 45-11-1 with a third-place finish at the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships.
Florida Southern senior J.T. Hintzen has been named the recipient of the 2018 Perfect Game Brett Tomko Award. The annual award is bestowed to a college baseball pitcher whose on the field performance is deemed the most outstanding at the Division II level. The award is named for former Moccasin Brett Tomko who was 15-2 for the 1995 NCAA National Champion Florida Southern team. Tomko, who went on to win 100 games in the Major Leagues, was named the 1995 National Pitcher and Player of the Year.
The same day he was named the Josh Willingham Award recipient the Division II Baseball's Most Valuable Player, Florida Southern senior Logan Browning was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 24th round (730th pick overall) in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday. The Lakeland native is the third Florida Southern picked by the Red Sox since 1999.
The Milwaukee Brewers have picked senior J.T. Hintzen with their 10th round pick (305th overall) in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Hintzen is the highest Moccasin draft pick since Jhalan Jackson was tabbed in the seventh round by the New York Yankees in the 2015 draft. He is the 28th Florida Southern player to be drafted in the top ten rounds of the MLB draft.
CARY, NC - Logan Browning, Cody Burgess, and Hayden Marze were named to the NCAA Division II National All-Tournament today following Augustana's 3-2 win over Columbus State in the national championship game. The Moccasins were eliminated by Columbus State on Friday to finish third in the eight-team national tournament.

Florida Southern (43-9-1) advances to play Augustana, a 5-2 winner of Southern New Hampshire, Sunday at 7 p.m. The game was originally slated for Monday, but heavy rain is forecast for the area, so four games will be played Sunday.
The second of the postseason All-America teams were announced Friday by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association with reliever J.T. Hintzen earning first-team honors and designated hitter Hayden Marze and pitcher/outfielder Logan Browning garnering second-team recognition. In addition, the American Baseball Coaches Association released its All-South Region Team with Hintzen and Browning selected to the first-team and Marze voted to the second team.

The Florida Southern College athletic program has had its volleyball, men's swimming, women's lacrosse, and men's golf on the brink of a national championship this year, but each has fallen just shy of the ultimate goal - an NCAA Division II National Championship. The Moccasins now advance to the NCAA national tournament May 26-June 2 in Cary, N.C. The Moccasins erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning and watched as Tampa chipped away at the lead. One day after reliever J.T. Hintzen made his first career start and pitch a complete game, Logan Browning came on the in the eighth inning and then struck out the side in the ninth to pick up his first career save in his first career relief appearance.

Tampa (42-10) advanced to the title game with a 7-1 win late this evening versus Mississippi College.

LAKELAND - Jacob Teter hit a three-run homer to break a scoreless tie while Cody Burgess added a two-run shot as the Moccasins erupted for five runs in the seventh inning to defeat Nova Southeastern 5-1 in the second round of the NCAA Division II South Region baseball tournament played here at Henley Field. The Moccasins now advance in the winners' bracket to face the winner of this afternoon's Tampa/Delta State game. The time of that game is to be determined.
LAKELAND - The opening game of the NCAA Division II South Regional made it to the bottom of the seventh inning before a lightning delay sent the teams off the field. A short time later, heavy rains hit the area and the game was suspended with third-seeded Delta State leading No. 6 Mississippi College, 13-2. The game was eventually suspended and will be resumed Friday, tentatively at 10 a.m., depending on the weather. The remaining two games scheduled for Thursday - #2 Tampa vs. #7 Albany State and #4 Nova Southeastern vs. #5 Montevallo are slated to follow on Friday at times to be determined.
