Milwaukee Brewers Pick Hintzen in 10th Round of MLB Draft

The Milwaukee Brewers have picked senior J.T. Hintzen with their 10th round pick (305th overall) in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Hintzen is the highest Moccasin draft pick since Jhalan Jackson was tabbed in the seventh round by the New York Yankees in the 2015 draft. He is the 28th Florida Southern player to be drafted in the top ten rounds of the MLB draft.

Hintzen is the fifth Florida Southern player and third pitcher to be drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Hintzen tied for the NCAA Division II lead with 14 wins (14-0) and was 10th in the country with a 1.77 earned run average. He was also second in the NCAA-II with 32 appearances and a 0.78 WHiP (walks and hits per inning pitched). All of those figures were tops in the Sunshine State Conference.

The Old Greenwich, CT native was eighth in the country with 8.77 strikeouts to walk ration and 18th with 114 strikeouts this season. His 10.61 strikeouts per nine innings were sixth in the SSC while his 1.21 walks allowed per nine innings was third best in the conference.

Hintzen won 12 of his games out of the bullpen and then picked up wins in the NCAA South Regional and NCAA National Championship Tournament in his first two career starts as a Moccasin.

Florida Southern finished third nationally after capturing the program's 21st regional championship. The Moccasins finished with a 45-11-1 record, posting the most wins since the 2005 team won a national championship with a 51-11 record. FSC placed third in the Sunshine State Conference with a 22-8 record.
