Lawton will enter Florida Southern as a junior this fall after spending two seasons at Division II St. Thomas Aquinas College in New York. He appeared in 51 games during his time with the Spartans, averaging 13.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game as a sophomore. He shot a blistering 50.0 percent (50-of-100) from long range in 2016-17 and connected on 51.4 percent of his total field-goal attempts last season. The 2015-16 East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, Lawton led the Spartans to 28 wins and an appearance in the Elite Eight of last year's NCAA Division II National Tournament.
"We are thrilled to add Jonathan to our program. He will provide much-needed experience, leadership, and versatility to our backcourt. He can play both guard positions and is an excellent perimeter shooter. Jon will fit in very well with our other perimeter players, and is a great piece to complete this year's recruiting class."
