Men's Cross Country Drops One Spot in Regional Poll

NEW ORLEANS – The Florida Southern men's cross country team dropped one spot in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Regional Poll released Tuesday. The Moccasins, ranked second in the preseason poll on Aug. 29, dropped to number three after a second place finish at the Holloway Park Preseason Festival on Sept. 2.

Florida Southern was led at the Festival by senior Bobby Ormsby, who picked up his first collegiate win, taking the men's 5K race with a time of 15:44.5 was earned Sunshine State Conference Men's Runner of the Week for his efforts. Freshman Mason Jones was the next Moccasin to cross the finish line in sixth place while junior Dean McGregor came in ninth.

Lee holds down the top spot in the South Region poll for a second straight week while Embry-Riddle jumped from fifth to second after capturing the championship at the Festival. After FSC, Alabama-Huntsville is ranked fourth with Saint Leo closing out the top five. Rounding out the poll are Christian Brothers, Nova Southeastern, Tampa, North Alabama, and West Alabama.

The Moccasins will compete next on Sept. 23 at the Trevecca D2 Showcase in Nashville, TN

Florida Southern will also be the host institution, along with the Central Florida's Polk County Sports Marketing, for the NCAA Division II South Regional, which will also be held at Holloway Park on Nov. 4. It is the first time that Florida Southern has hosted a NCAA cross country postseason event.

The USTFCCCA NCAA Division II region polls are released every week during the regular season. The poll ranks the Top 10 men's and women's cross country teams in each of the eight NCAA regions. Eight regional representatives coordinate the voting in their own region with input from the coaches.
