ZACHARY, LA - Florida Southern College waterski snagged its fourth-straight top-four finish at the annual NCWSA National Championships this past weekend at Tri-Lakes. The Moccasins tallied 11,240 points to finish well ahead of fifth-place Rollins (9,150). UL Monroe, UL Lafayette, and Alabama finished in the top three spots in the order. ULM finished with 12,165 points with first-place finishes in the slalom and jump, while Alabama brought home the team trick title.
Florida Southern scored 4,155 points in the slalom to finish second and came in fourth in both the trick and jump competitions. The Moccasin women took second in the slalom, third in the trick and fourth in the jump to finish third overall in the women's competition while the FSC men were fourth, also finishing second in the slalom as well as fourth in both the trick and jump portions of the event.
On the women's side, Valentina Gonzalez was the Mocs' top finisher with a third-place showing. She took third in the jump (43.1 meters), fifth in the trick (3,850) and 15th in the slalom (two buoys at 35 off). Samantha Dumala and Allie Nicholson tied for fourth in the slalom with two buoys at 38 off, while Kelley Breeden finished ninth (five buoys at 38 off). Nicola Horwood rounded out Florida Southern's top performers with a ninth-place showing in the trick competition (2,630).
The Moccasin men were led by Cole McCormick's seventh-place overall finish. McCormick took third in the slalom, 14th in the trick and 15th in the jump. Ryan Harris also finished among the top skiers at the event, taking 10th overall with top-25 finishes in the slalom (19th) and jump (23rd). Zane Nicholson and Brett Walker finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the slalom, and Aris Techoueyres took 10th in the trick.
