  • Women's Golf Team Now No. 8 in Golfstat Rankings and No. 6 in NCAA South Region

    With the Sunshine State Conference Championships behind them, and a little over a week until selections are made for the NCAA Division II Super Regionals, the Florida Southern women’s golf team is No. 8 in the country according to the newest Golfstat rankings, and more importantly in terms of their postseason standing, No. 6 in the NCAA South Region rankings. The top 12 teams in the region will earn spots in the NCAA South Super Regional, and with their schedule complete, the Moccasins are in good position to earn one of them.

    BOCA RATON, FL – For the second day in a row, all four Florida Southern counters were in the 70s as the Moccasins wrapped up the 2018 Sunshine State Conference Women’s Golf Championships with a third-round 307 that kept them in seventh place in the final standings.

    BOCA RATON, FL – Florida Southern posted the best score for any team on day two of the 2018 Sunshine State Conference Women’s Golf Championships, and Amanda Gartrell posted the best score for any Moccasin at any SSC championship tournament. Behind her three-under-par 69, Florida Southern had a 296 to remain in seventh place as a team while drawing while significantly closing the gap on the teams in front of them.

    BOCA RATON – Playing in the first postseason tournament of her college career, freshman Ashley Zagers was Florida Southern’s top golfer Sunday in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference Women’s Golf Championships, turning in a score that was four strokes better than any of her more veteran teammates. With most of round one being played in windy conditions at Osprey Point Golf Course, Zagers’ 78 put her in a tie for 17th place individually, and helped the 6th-ranked Moccasins end the day in seventh place as a team.
  • Sunshine State Conference Women's Golf Championships Begin Sunday with Six of the Nation's Top-10 Teams

    Postseason play begins this weekend for the Florida Southern women’s golf team as it heads to Boca Raton, Florida for the 2018 Sunshine State Conference Championships. The three-day tournament running from Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday features one round each day at Osprey Point Golf Course where Lynn University will serve as host. The SSC Championships were last held in Boca Raton in 2011 at Boca Country Club.
  • Moccasins Hold Position for Third-Place Finish at Argonaut Invitational with Gartrell, Higgins & Zagers all Top-10

    NAVARRE, FL – Amanda Gartrell started the day as the only Moccasin in the individual top-10 at the Argonaut Invitational, but by the end of it, so were Tori Higgins and Ashley Zagers. Shelby Lewis and Abbey Williams also shot in the 70s Tuesday, and the Moccasins’ team score of 302 allowed Florida Southern to hold position in third place in its final tournament of the regular season.

    MIAMI LAKES – With only top-ranked Nova Southeastern out-shooting the Moccasins on Tuesday, 6th-ranked Florida Southern used 74s from Tori Higgins, Abbey Williams and Shelby Lewis, and a 75 from Ashley Zagers to secure fourth place at the Barry University Invitational. The 17-team tournament featured five of the top six teams in Division II women’s golf, and those same teams also held the top five positions in the final standings.

    MIAMI LAKES – Balanced scoring was the key for Florida Southern Monday on day one of the Barry University Invitational, as the Moccasins came through the first two rounds tied for fourth in a tournament featuring five of the top six teams in Division II. After Amanda Gartrell and Tori Higgins were the top scorers for Florida Southern in round one, it was Abbey Williams, Shelby Lewis and Ashley Zagers in round two, with the Mocs under 300 in both rounds.

    WINDERMERE, FL – Amanda Gartrell’s two-under-par 70 was nearly the best round of the day and it pushed the Moccasin sophomore up to sixth place in the final standings, while Abbey Williams was tied for 17th after a final-round 75 that helped Florida Southern place fifth out of 18 teams at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational hosted by Rollins.

    The Florida Southern women’s golf team has moved into the top-10 of the newest Golfstat national rankings following their performance in this week’s Lady Moc Classic. The Moccasins jumped seven spots to No. 6, and Nova Southeastern displaced Indianapolis as the new No. 1.

    LAKELAND, FL – Heather Wall (Burgner) helped Florida Southern win two Lady Moc Classic titles as a player, and the former Moccasin golfer left this year’s tournament a winner yet again, but this time wearing a different uniform. Now the head coach for Nova Southeastern, Wall led the Sharks to the best final score in the tournament’s 20-year history, while Barry’s Tilda Larsson set the individual scoring record as medalist. Host Florida Southern shot a 304 Tuesday and finished sixth in the field of 17 teams, with sophomore Amanda Gartrell tying for fourth at one-under par 215.

    LAKELAND, FL – Behind a pair of 73s from sophomore Amanda Gartrell and freshman Ashley Zagers, Florida Southern had a team score of 302 in the first round of the Lady Moc Classic Monday at Grasslands Golf & Country Club, putting the Moccasins in sixth place halfway through the day. The Mocs went into the second round trailing first-place Nova Southeastern by 12 shots, and second-place Barry by eight.

    LAKELAND – The 20th annual Lady Moc Classic gets underway Monday morning at Grasslands Golf and Country Club where 17 schools and a dozen individuals will compete in three rounds over two days in a tournament that annually draws some of the best Division II women’s golf programs in the country. The first two rounds are Monday, with play beginning at 8 a.m., and the final round is Tuesday, also starting at 8 a.m.

It was the first full tournament of the spring semester for Florida Southern following an earlier dual match victory over the University of Kentucky.

    LAKELAND, FL – The spring semester got underway quite a bit earlier than usual for the Florida Southern women’s golf team as the Moccasins took on the University of Kentucky in a rare dual match Tuesday at Grasslands Golf and Country Club. With both teams fielding a standard five-player lineup plus three individuals, the Moccasins came out on top 313-316, though the Wildcats’ Leonie Bettell had the best individual score at three-under par 69.

    The Florida Southern women’s golf team ended the first semester with a win at the Newberry College Invitational, and the strong finish allowed the Moccasins to finish the fall portion of their schedule No. 13 in the Golfstat team rankings. (There is no national coaches’ poll in Division II women’s golf.) Four Moccasin golfers are also listed in the individual rankings, led by sophomore Amanda Gartrell at No. 23.

The Moccasins totaled a two-day 594 to finish 12 strokes behind Savannah Art & Design which shot 290 to win the event with a 582 team score.

    MELBOURNE, FL – Florida Southern’s Tori Higgins has claimed the first Sunshine State Conference Women’s Golf Player-of-the-Week Award announced by the league office on Monday, September 18. The junior from Dover, Florida led the Moccasins to a second-place finish at last weekend’s Lady Falcon Invitational in Daytona Beach by finishing as the individual runner-up in the nine-team tournament. The weekly honor is the first for Higgins in her three seasons with the Moccasins.
