Ice Hockey Picks Up First Wins in Program History

LAKELAND, Fla. - It was a series of firsts for Florida Southern College men's ice hockey, which snagged the first two victories in program history on Oct. 5 and Oct. 19 to improved to 2-3 on the season. The Moccasins are riding a two-game winning streak after victories in their last two home contests.

0CT. 4 VS. FLORIDA | L, 0-7
In just its second-ever home contest, Florida Southern was unable to overcome a flurry of goals from Florida, as the Gators came away with a 7-0 road win. The loss gave Florida Southern three-straight defeats to open the season, but the Moccasins bounced back in their next two contests.

The Mocs picked up their first win in program history with a 9-7 win over the Rink-side Sports Adult league. The Oct. 5 contest was originally slated to be played against Flagler, but the Saints were unable to dress enough players to compete. Rink-Side Sports replaced Flagler as the Moccasins' opponent for their third home contest, and Florida Southern fired home nine goals to pick up the first win in program history.

OCT. 19 VS. USF | W, 6-4
Southern picked up its second straight win with a 6-4 victory over South Florida this past Saturday.  Jamie Calhoun netted one goal and two assists while Ethan Olivia also put one between the pipes. Christian Nichols and Maxwell Tielbur both recorded one assist each as the Moccasins improved to 2-3 on the season. The Mocs were able to move to 1-2 in this year's series against USF, with at least two more games remaining against the Bulls.

The Mocs will conclude the month of October with a home-and-home series against Florida Tech. Southern will travel to Melbourne to take on the Panthers on Oct. 25 before returning to the Lakeland Ice Arena on Oct. 26 to end the series with a 9 p.m. contest. Florida Southern will play just once next month, a home date on Nov. 16 against Eastern Florida State.
