Hanes Tosses Five-Hit Shutout in Mocs' 7-0 Win

MOUNT OLIVE, NC – Junior Cameron Hanes tossed a five-hit shutout as 13th ranked Florida Southern completed a doubleheader sweep of No. 19 Mount Olive here Saturday at Scarborough Field. The Moccasin righthander struck out two and walked one in throwing Florida Southern's first complete game shutout of the season.

Hanes walked his one batter with two outs in the first inning, but came back to get the next batter to fly out to end the inning. Derek Deler led off the second with a double off Hanes while David Mayo singled to put runners at first and second with no one out. Hanes got a ground ball and then a double-play grounder to end the Mount Oliver threat.

The Trojans (3-3) got a single with one out in the third before Hanes set down the next nine in a row before Josh Black singled with one out in the sixth. Again, Hanes came back to stop the rally, getting the next two batters to fly out. Mount Olive opened the seventh with a double by Delert, but Hanes then retired the next three batters in order to pick up his first win of the season.

Florida Southern (8-2) would get all the runs it turned out it needed on a sacrifice fly by Mitch Reeves in the first inning scoring Logan Browning who led off the frame with a walk. The Moccasins then took advantage of three Trojan errors to put up a four-spot in the fourth inning.

Jason Sierra led off the fourth with a double while Dominic Brugnoni reached on a error by the Mount Olive third baseman. Both runners then moved up a base on a errant pick-off play by the pitcher while Shawn Sanders singled to drive in one run. One out and a wild pitch later, Evan Barnes reached on a secord error on the third baseman with Brugnoni scoring on the play. Pablo Cabrera singled  to plate Barnes while the final run came across on a sac fly by Browning.

Florida Southern concludes its three-game series with Mount Olive here tomorrow at 1 pm.
