Three Named First-Team All-South Region by NCBWA and D2CCA

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - Logan Browning, Hayden Marze, J.T. Hintzen have all been named as NCBWA All-South Region First-Team selections by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.

Browning picks up his second career first-team selection as a utility player by both teams. He was a 1st Team NCBWA selection as a freshman and a first-team D2CCA honoree last season. The Lakeland, FL native is the Moccasins' number one starting pitcher and is 9-2 on the season with a 3.08 earned run average and 102 strikeouts in 99.1 innings. He is just the seventh pitcher in Moccasin history to record 100 or more strikeouts in back-to-back seasons (107 in 2017). While not pitching, Browning starts in right field and leads the conference with a .456 batting average and is second with a .521 on-base percentage.

Marze makes the first-team as a designated hitter as named by the two organizations Playing his first full collegiate season as a hitter, Marze is second in the Sunshine State Conference with 61 RBI, third with 19 home runs, and is tied for third with 54 runs scored. His 19 homers is just one shy of tying Jhalan Jackson's school record of 20 hit in 2015. The Sunset, LA native has hit three grand slams this season.

Hintzen has been unbeatable of the Moccasin bullpen, earning NCBWA and D2CCA first-team honors as a relief pitcher. He is second in the NCAA Division II with 12 wins (12-0) – all coming in relief. He also has one save. He has a 2.08 earned run average and is 12th in the NCAA-II with a 7.31 strikeout to walk ratio. In the last weekend of the regular season, Hintzen picked up a win and a save as the Mocs took the regular season finale series as Tampa, which entered the series with a 21-game conference win streak.

Florida Southern is the number one seed and host team for the 2018 Division II South Region Tournament which began last Thursday at Henley Field. The Moccasins downed Nova Southeastern, 5-1 in the team's lone game as the Regional has been hampered by rains. Only four of the nine scheduled games have been played so far. Sunday's games have placed on hold due to heavy rains in the morning and early afternoon. The regional was slated to run through Monday with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division II National Tournament, May 26-June 2 in Cary, NC.
