  • Florida Southern and Sunshine State Conference 2020 Fall Sports Update

    MELBOURNE and LAKELAND, Fla. – Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and with the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes and all those in our campus communities as our highest priority, the Sunshine State Conference Presidents Council announces the postponement of all scheduled competitions in the fall sports season. This includes men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, and women’s volleyball.

    LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College Athletics has announced major academic and athletic awards for the 2019-20 school year. The Academic Awards are presented to the junior or senior who has the highest grade point average on the team. The Most Valuable Player Awards were selected by the head coach for each respective program.

Niekro has been voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Baseball First Team, the organization announced Wednesday. This is the first time that Niekro has earned the Academic All-America honor.

    LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College Department of Athletics was recognized for its community service efforts over the 2019-20 academic year, logging 4,313 total hours since July 1, 2019. As a department the Mocs ranked 25th among NCAA Division II schools nationally, and was the highest-ranked Sunshine State Conference member institution.

    LAKELAND, Fla. – Until further notice, all athletic facilities at Florida Southern College are closed. This includes the Jenkins Field House, Gilbert Gymnasium, the Barnett Athletic Complex, Moccasin Field, Chris Bellotto Field, Henley Field, the Ruthven Courts, the Wellness Center and the Hollis Wellness Center Pool, Warden Tennis Courts, and all locker rooms.
  • SSC Cancels All Spring 2020 League Competitions and Championships

    MELBOURNE, Fla. - In alignment with yesterday’s NCAA Board of Governors Resolution, the Sunshine State Conference has canceled all league competitions and championships for the spring 2020 semester, effectively immediately. Member institutions will exercise institutional discretion as to practice and regular-season non-conference competition in all sports for the spring 2020 semester. This decision was unanimously agreed upon by the SSC Presidents Council and SSC Athletic Directors Council with the health, safety, and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and campus communities in mind.

    LAKELAND – The NCAA has issued a statement regarding all winter and sport championships that will cancel all championships. Hence, the NCAA Men’s Basketball South Region Championship, originally scheduled to be held at the Jenkins Field House at Florida Southern, has been canceled.

The No. 29 Moccasins (14-8) won its third-straight game in the victory over the Warriors (6-9).

    LAKELAND, Fla. - Registration is now open for the 2020 Lance Niekro Baseball Camps. Florida Southern will host two different Youth Instructional Camps in June (22-25) and July (13-16) at Rodda Stadium at Henley Field, home of the nine-time national champion Moccasins. The camps will feature instruction from Florida Southern coaches and select players.     MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Florida Southern College baseball split a Saturday doubleheader at Feinbloom Field against Barry University as the Moccasins fell 13-2 in game one but rebounded with a 4-2 victory in game two. The No. 18 Moccasins (10-6, 2-4 SSC) tallied 13 hits in the second game against the Buccaneers (11-3, 3-3 SSC).

    LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College baseball fell in the series opener to Barry University on Friday night, dropping a 13-7 contest at Feinbloom Field. The No. 18 Moccasins (9-5, 1-3 SSC) hit four long balls but 12 runs for the Buccaneers (10-2, 2-2 SSC) in the sixth and seventh innings gave the home side a large buffer.

    DALLAS - The Florida Southern College baseball team has moved to No. 18 in the nation, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America announced on Wednesday. The Mocs are coming off of a tough weekend series against No. 4 Tampa. The Spartans took games one and three by 10-1 and 11-1 scorelines, respectively. Southern prevented the series sweep with a 5-3 win on Saturday in game two. 
  • Baseball Game Between Mocs and Golden Eagles Cancelled

    LAKELAND, Fla. - Wednesday night's baseball game between Florida Southern and Minnesota-Crookston has been cancelled because of rain. There are no plans to reschedule the event. Southern will be back in action this weekend in Miami Shores as they play a three-game series against Barry. The first game will be Friday night at 6 p.m. with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
