Hanson is SSC Player of the Week for Second Time This Season

MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern's Brett Hanson has been named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season and third time in his career after leading the Moccasins to a 74-71 win over 19th-ranked Southern New Hampshire on Saturday. The sophomore guard, who is from Manchester, New Hampshire, scored a team-high 23 points, and tied for the team lead with 12 rebounds and five assists.

In putting together his fifth 20-point game of the season and third straight, Hanson went 10-for-20 from the floor and 3-for-5 from 3-point range. His 23 points were two away from his season-high, established in an 88-87 win over Midwestern State in November. Hanson also had his fourth double-double of the season, with two of those coming in the last two games.

After Southern New Hampshire had cut the deficit to 69-67 with a little over two minutes to play, Hanson hit a jumper to push the Mocs' lead back up to four. The Penmen were able to tie the game at 71 after that, but Hanson again stepped up to assist the go-ahead basket by Ben Marello with 22 seconds remaining and later converted his final free throw of the night to put the Mocs up by three before the Penmen missed a game-tying 3-pointer.

The win was Florida Southern's third of the season over a nationally ranked team following a 75-67 victory over Delta State on November 11, and a 71-68 win over Le Moyne on November 24. The Moccasins are now 8-5 on the season, picking up their eighth win seven games earlier than they did last season.

Hanson is second on the team in scoring this year with 15.2 points per game while also averaging 7.2 rebounds and a team-high 3.4 assists.

The Moccasins return to action on Wednesday night at Florida Tech with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
