    LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College Department of Athletics was recognized for its community service efforts over the 2019-20 academic year, logging 4,313 total hours since July 1, 2019. As a department the Mocs ranked 25th among NCAA Division II schools nationally, and was the highest-ranked Sunshine State Conference member institution.

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today the 2020 NABC Coaches’ Division II All-District teams and coaches, recognizing the best men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes and coaches in the division. Florida Southern College standout Brett Hanson has been named to the First Team All-South Region, while Head Coach Mike Donnelly was named the South Region Coach of the Year.

    LAKELAND, Fla. – Until further notice, all athletic facilities at Florida Southern College are closed. This includes the Jenkins Field House, Gilbert Gymnasium, the Barnett Athletic Complex, Moccasin Field, Chris Bellotto Field, Henley Field, the Ruthven Courts, the Wellness Center and the Hollis Wellness Center Pool, Warden Tennis Courts, and all locker rooms.

  • SSC Cancels All Spring 2020 League Competitions and Championships

    MELBOURNE, Fla. - In alignment with yesterday’s NCAA Board of Governors Resolution, the Sunshine State Conference has canceled all league competitions and championships for the spring 2020 semester, effectively immediately. Member institutions will exercise institutional discretion as to practice and regular-season non-conference competition in all sports for the spring 2020 semester. This decision was unanimously agreed upon by the SSC Presidents Council and SSC Athletic Directors Council with the health, safety, and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and campus communities in mind.

    LAKELAND – The NCAA has issued a statement regarding all winter and sport championships that will cancel all championships. Hence, the NCAA Men’s Basketball South Region Championship, originally scheduled to be held at the Jenkins Field House at Florida Southern, has been canceled.

    LAKELAND, Fla. – In a game that played out like a pair of heavyweights going toe-to-toe, the top-seeded Florida Southern College (28-2) men's basketball team edged #5 Embry-Riddle (20-10), 80-77, in the Semifinals of the Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Championship presented by Jimmy John's. Florida Southern will now host #2 Nova Southeastern in the Championship Game on Sunday, March 8, at 1:00 p.m. Nova Southeastern defeated Palm Beach Atlantic tonight, 93-78, in the second Semifinal.

Senior guard Brett Hanson has been named the SSC Player of the Year, while junior forward Jalyn Hinton was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, Head Coach Mike Donnelly was named the Conference’s Coach of the Year.

    LAKELAND, Fla. – It was a tale of two halves for the top-seeded Florida Southern College men's basketball team (27-2), who needed 62 second half points to rally from behind to defeat eighth-seeded Lynn (12-15), 97-80, in the Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Championship presented by Jimmy John's Senior guard Brett Hanson scored 23 of his 31 points in the second half, to spark the rally for the Mocs. Junior forward Jalyn Hinton scored 22 of his game-high 33 points in the second half as well, as Southern out-scored Lynn 62-29 in the second half.

    PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men’s basketball team (26-2, 18-2 SSC) rounded out the regular season with a 92-86 win over host Palm Beach Atlantic (20-8, 13-7 SSC). Brandon Carroll scored 21 points to lead all players.The Mocs will enter the SSC Championships as the No. 1 seed, and will host No. 8 Lynn University on Tuesday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m.

    LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women’s and men’s basketball teams have both clinched post-season berths in the SSC Championships, which are set to begin March 3 with the Quarterfinals Round. The Semifinals will take place on Thursday, March 5, with the Championship Games slated for Sunday, March 8. All games will take place on the campus sites of the higher ranked team.

    TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 5 Florida Southern College men's basketball team escaped Tampa with a 90-89 victory. With the victory, Florida Southern claimed it 24th Sunshine State Conference regular-season title in program history. The Mocs trailed the Spartans for all of the first half and most of the second as they came back to win. Florida Southern is now 25-2 overall, and 17-2 in first place in the Sunshine State Conference, while Tampa drops to 7-19 overall, and 4-14 in the SSC.

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Florida Southern College men's basketball team remains ranked No. 5 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Coaches Poll. The NABC released the Week 14 poll February 25, 2020. Florida Southern was ranked No. 5 a week ago as well, after having previously been ranked No. 6 for the last few weeks. Last week, Florida Southern was ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Regional Rankings.

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA today has announced the first Regional Rankings of the 2019-20 men’s basketball season, and the Florida Southern College Moccasins are ranked No. 1 in the South Region. The regional poll is what dictates where the South Regional portion of the NCAA postseason bracket will be played. The NCAA Championships selection show will be March 8, with play set to begin across the country on March 13.
  • Mocs Men's Basketball Cruises to 109-75 Win Over Eckerd

    LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 5 Florida Southern College men’s basketball team cruised to a 109-75 victory against visiting Eckerd College on Wednesday night, as the host Mocs celebrated Senior Night. Florida Southern is now 24-2 overall, and 16-2 and in first place in the Sunshine State Conference, while Eckerd drops to 8-17 overall, and 4-13 in the SSC.All twelve players who entered the game for the Mocs scored, led by senior Brett Hanson with 24, and classmate Jair Rodgers with 21.

The NABC released the Week 13 poll February 18, 2020. Florida Southern had previously been ranked No. 6 for the last few weeks, but the Mocs this week defeated then-No. 5 Nova Southeastern, 102-96.
  • Hinton Repeats as SSC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week

    MELBOURNE, Fla. – For the fourth time this season, Florida Southern College men’s basketball player Jalyn Hinton has been named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The conference office announced the honor today, covering the week ending February 16, 2020. Hinton has now won the award in back-to-back weeks, and four times this season. He previously won the award on February 9, January 20, and December 19.

    FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The stage was set, complete with a national audience provided by ESPN3, as the No. 6 Florida Southern College men's basketball team faced off against the No. 5 Nova Southeastern Sharks in the NCAA Division II Showcase. Sure enough, the visiting Mocs would come from behind to win, 102-96, in stunning fashion. Now 23-2 on the season and 15-2 in the Sunshine State Conference, the Mocs remain in first place in the SSC, ahead of second place Nova Southeastern (19-3, 13-3 SSC).
