MELBOURNE, Fla. – After helping lead Florida Southern College men's basketball to a 2-0 record on opening weekend, senior Brett Hanson has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Player, the conference office announced on Monday.
Hanson, averaged 25.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 4.5 steals per game in wins over Delta State (92-74) and West Alabama (76-59). He has scored in double figures in 23-straight games dating back to last season, with 11 performances of 20 or more points.
Against Delta State in the season opener, Hanson had 24 points, five rebounds, five assists, and five steals before following that up with 26 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and four steals against West Alabama.
Hanson has now won five SSC Player of the Week Awards, which includes a pair of Defensive Player of the Week Honors. With his performances this weekend, he pushed his career scoring total to 1,593 and needs 21 more to move into eighth place in school history in career scoring. He also upped his career rebound total to 644 and needs 16 more to move into 14th in school history in total rebounds.
In addition to his scoring and rebound totals, Hanson (303) is now just 70 assists shy of cracking the top 10 in school history in that category, and moved into eighth in career steals (164) on opening weekend.
Florida Southern returns to action at USC Aiken on Saturday before opening SSC play with a pair of road games at Embry-Riddle (Nov. 20) and Barry (Nov. 23).
