MELBOURNE, Fla. – For the third time this season, Florida Southern College men's basketball player Jalyn Hinton has been named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The conference office announced the honor today, covering the week ending February 9, 2020.
He previously won the award twice this season, back on December 19, 2019, and January 20, 2020.
The Mocs are currently ranked 6th in the nation in the latest NABC national coaches poll, and are 21-2 on the season, including 13-2 in the SSC.
Last week, the Mocs defeated a pair of conference opponents, winning at Lynn, 97-92, before besting Florida Tech at home, 112-82.
At Lynn University, the Boston, Mass., native recorded seven rebounds and one blocked shot to go with 12 points and five assists. In the win over Tech, he responded with five blocked shots and nine rebounds, while contributing 16 points and a pair of assists.
Southern hosts Rollins College on Wednesday, February 12, before heading to face No. 5 Nova Southeastern on Saturday. That game at NSU on February 15, will be broadcast by ESPN exclusively on ESPN.com and the ESPN app. Division II is in its second year of its current regular season media agreement, where the division streams 18 basketball games exclusively on ESPN3 through ESPN.com and the ESPN App. Eighteen additional basketball games and 6-10 other sports are streamed in a hybrid model that consists of online distribution and could involve local TV.
