Mocs Remain Sixth in Latest NCAA D-II South Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - In the third NCAA Division II regional men's golf rankings that were released late on Friday, Florida Southern remains sixth and is one of six Sunshine State Conference schools ranked in this week's latest South Region rankings.

The regional rankings are used to determine which teams will earn berths in the NCAA D-II Regional tournaments that will be held on May 4-6 at four different sites on campus. The NCAA will conduct four combined regional tournaments as the East and Atlantic will comprise one super region, while the South and Southeast will be combined for another super regional. The other two super regionals will feature the Midwest and Central together and the West and South Central regions together.

Each regional will feature a total of 20 teams (10 from each region), including automatic qualifiers and eight individuals not on one those 20 teams for selection to the tournament. In the South Region, the SSC, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Gulf South Conference are three of 20 Division II conferences that have automatic bids. Lynn has earned the automatic bid from the SSC after winning this week's SSC Championships at RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.

FSC is one of six SSC schools that remained ranked in the third South Regional poll as the 12-time national champion Moccasins are joined in the rankings by Nova Southeastern at No. 1, Lynn is No. 2 and two-time defending national champion Barry is third. Saint Leo is ranked fourth, while Florida Tech remained seventh.

The six SSC schools are joined by four GSC schools as West Georgia is fifth, West Florida remains eighth, North Alabama is ninth and Valdosta State remains ranked 10th.

This year's selections for the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Tournament will be formally announced online at www.ncaa.com on Friday, April 24. The South/Southeast Super Regional will be held on May 4-6 at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla., and will be hosted by Saint Leo University. The 2015 NCAA D-II National Championships are scheduled for May 18-22 at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, N.C., and are hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University.

FSC, who is ranked 10th in latest Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches' Poll, finished third overall as a team at this year's SSC Men's Golf Championships at RedTail as they shot a two-over 866 for 54 holes to finish five shots behind second place Nova Southeastern and four shots in front of fourth place Florida Tech.
