Men's Swimming Drops Close Decision to Tampa

 LAKELAND, FLA. – The Florida Southern men's swimming team dropped a close meet today to the University of Tampa, 145.5-116.5.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The meet came down to the final few events, with the Mocs remaining within striking distance.
  • Leading the charge was junior Matias Lopez, who won the 200-back in 1:51.49, the 400-IM in 4:04.45, and placed second in the 100-back in 51.58.
  • Sophomore Cole Smith was a double-winner in the distance events, winning the 1000-free in 9:47.76, and the 500-free in 4:46.95.
  • Senior Talor Hamilton continued his string of strong performances, sprinting to first place in the 50-free in just 21.25 seconds, while also winning the 100-fly in 51.30 seconds.
  • Junior Carlos Bernotti won the 200-free (1:42.35), and took third in the 100-free (46.87).
  • Also claiming a victory was junior Miguel Bernotti in the 200-fly (1:52.39).

 INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Southern swept the podium in the 1000-free, with Smith taking first place, Ethan Shaw second, Matt Agostinelli third, and Luka Prostran fourth.
  • FSC had three double-winners on the afternoon: Hamilton, Lopez, and Smith.
