LIVINGSTON, AL – With five straight-set singles wins, three of which saw the Moccasins drop three games or less, Florida Southern won its second match in as many days by defeating West Alabama 8-1 Saturday afternoon.

The Moccasins (2-2) opened their 3-match road trip to Alabama and Mississippi with a 7-2 win over Alabama-Huntsville on Friday and were even stronger less than 24 hours later. After taking two of the three doubles matches, the Moccasins got a 6-2, 6-0 win from sophomore Brian Slivonik at No. 5 singles and a 6-1, 6-1 win from junior Laurent Mailloux at the No. 3 position.

Sophomore Miguel Alvarez-Hevia then put the match away early by taking down Chris Wood at the No. 4 slot, 6-4, 6-2, and freshman No. 6 player Oscar Soderlund followed with his 6-3, 6-0 victory to give the Mocs a 6-1 match score.

The final two singles matches took a little bit longer, but the Moccasins won those as well behind juniors Fabian Lundberg and Jose de Sario. Lundberg won at the No. 1 position, 7-5, 6-4, and de Sario picked up the win at No. 2, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The only win for the Tigers (3-2) came at No. 3 doubles, as Mailloux and Alvarez-Hevia combined for an 8-6 win at the top flight, and de Sario and Slivonik won 8-3 at the second.

Florida Southern will complete its trip on Sunday in Clinton, Mississippi against Mississippi College with the match scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Eastern Time.
