Moccasin Roll to 8-1 Win Over Walsh

LAKELAND – Florida Southern began a busy Tennis Tuesday with an 8-1 victory over Walsh at home in friendly confines of the Wynee Warden Tennis Center on the FSC campus. The Moccasins then got in the team van and hit the road for a 5:00 match later this evening vs. Bloomsburg at Florida Tech in Melbourne.

The Moccasins, 6-3 and winners of back-to-back matches and six of the last seven, took two of three doubles matches and swept the singles competition.

Florida Southern opened doubles with a 8-1 win by the number one doubles team of Jose de Sario and Brian Slivonik over Ross Whitaker and Vasiliy Vidmanov while FSC's number three doubles duo of Fabian Lundberg anbd Oscar Soderlund got the Mocs' second win with a 8-3 triumph over Jonah Carter and Heitor Adegas.

Walsh, 4-4, came back at number two doubles with an 8-6 victory by Pablo Cabezon and Carlos Jaque over Miguel Alvarez-Hevia and Arthur Viallaneix for the Cavaliers' only point of the match. Cabezon and Jaque are the four-ranked doubles team in the Midwest Region.

In singles, Lundberg set the Mocs in motion with a 6-1, 6-4 win at number one while Viallaneix put FSC on the edge of victory with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number six singles over Adegas. Slivonik clinched the match win for Florida Southern with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Rodrigo Garcia at number four.

The Moccasins kept rolling in singles as de Sario came from behind to post a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory vs. Vidmanov in the number two singles and Alvarez-Hevia got a 6-2, 7-5 win over Cabezon, the 15th ranked singles player in the Midwest Region, at number three. Soderlund completed the singles sweep for the Moccasins with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Jaque at number five.
