No. 4 West Florida Deals Mocs 8-1 Defeat

LAKELAND – The visiting West Florida men's tennis team came to the Warden Tennis Center and proved why it is ranked fourth in the nation by downing Florida Southern 8-1 here Friday. The Argonauts improve to 11-2 with the win, while the Moccasins fall to 9-5.

The Moccasins' lone point came at number five singles as Arthur Viallaneix handed a 6-4, 7-5, loss to the Argonaut's Douglas Boe.

West Florida swept the doubles matches for a 3-0 lead as the nation's fifth-ranked team of Alex Peyrot and Kenny Brasil topped the Mocs' duo of Jose DeSario and Brian Slivonik, 8-5, at number one while Pedro Roese and Douglas Boe, ranked 10th in the South Region, won out by an identical 8-5 score over Miguel Alverez-Hevia and Laurent Mailloux at number two. Pablo Borrero and Pablo Tellez combined to hang a 8-6 loss on the Mocs' Viallaneix and Fabian Lundberg at number three.

In other singles matches, Juan Pablo Boada, ranked 13th in the region, topped Lundberg, 7-5, 6-3, at number one while Brasi, ranked 22nd nationally, posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over de Sario. Sebastian Sanchez recorded a 6-4, 6-2, win at number three over Slivonik while Borrero came out ahead, 6-4, 6-4, in a match versus Alvarez-Hevia at number four. Finally, Roese topped Oscar Soderlun, 6-0, 6-3, at number six.

Florida Southern will next play a Sunshine State Conference match on Tuesday, March 22 at the University of Tampa at 3 pm.
