Mocs Post Six Singles and Three Doubles Wins on Day One of Mountain Lion Invitational

YOUNG HARRIS, GA - Florida Southern won six of its eight singles matches and three of its four doubles matches on day one of the Mountain Lion Invitational played here Friday at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex, the home courts for Young Harris College.

Matt Matsuyama opened with a straight set, 6-1, 6-1, victory over Young Harris' Max Maldoon, and will face Raul Quevedo of Young Harris Saturday at 10 a.m., while Brian Wilson topped Carson Harrell of Belmont Abbey, 6-0, 6-1, to advance to play North Georgia's Jared Bones, also on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Blaine Miller defeated Belmont Abbey's Derrick Kwok, 6-2, 6-2 to move on to play Saturday at 10 a.m. against Belmont Abbey's Joseph Horne, while Mark Bucknam posted a hard fought, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over Belmont Abbey's Adam Mithwani, and will face Young Harris' Nicki Graetz, at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Derek Bell recorded a straight set, 6-0, 6-0, victory over Belmont Abbey's Ethan Batchelor to move on to play Saturday at 10 a.m. against Zach Blythe of Belmont Abbey, while Laurent Mailloux topped Darian Diaz of Belmont Abbey, 6-2, 6-0, and will play Saturday at 10 a.m. versus Alex Pavel of Young Harris. 

Connor Angell, was defeated, 6-0, 6-0, by North Georgia's Jared Bones, while Lance Francisco also fell, 6-0, 6-3, to North Georgia's Joe Kloklow. Angell and Francisco will play Saturday at 1 p.m. in the consolation bracket.

In doubles, Matsuyama and Bucknam defeated Batchelor and Liam Curtin of Belmont Abbey by an 8-0 score The duo will next face Pavel and Quevedo of Young Harris Saturday at 3 p.m.

Mailloux and Miller topped Nolasco and Diaz of Belmont Abbey by an 8-1 tally to move on to face Kloklow and Bones of North Georgia on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Bell and Wilson beat Harrall and Horne of Belmont Abbey, 8-2, to advance to play Graetz and Daniel Tiboldi of Young Harris, Saturday at 3 p.m.

Francisco and Angell were defeated, 8-0, by Blythe and George Barefoot of Belmont Abbey, and will play in the doubles consolation bracket on Saturday.
