ITA Scholar-Athlete Honors Earned by Eight Men's Tennis Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2019 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes earlier this summer, with eight members of the 2018-19 Florida Southern College men's tennis team named ITA Scholar-Athletes. In addition, Florida Southern was selected as an ITA All-Academic Team as head coach Greg Van Emburgh's squad posted a 3.58 team grade point average this past school year. The team award is the fifth-straight for the program and twelfth overall.

Junior Lennart Vossgäetter earned his third-straight ITA Scholar-Athlete honor, while senior Victor Ahlbeck and sophomore Tim Becker received their second-straight awards. Freshmen Miroslav Cvjetan, Valentin Hertweck, Brian Pham, Oscar Sohl and Danny Thomas all received the award for the first time in their collegiate careers.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2018 and spring 2019).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
