  • 215 Florida Southern Student-Athletes Named to Spring SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

    MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference has announced that 215 Florida College student-athletes, representing 12 different sports, have been named to the 2020 Sunshine State Conference Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll presented by Barnes & Noble College.

    LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College Athletics has announced major academic and athletic awards for the 2019-20 school year. The Academic Awards are presented to the junior or senior who has the highest grade point average on the team. The Most Valuable Player Awards were selected by the head coach for each respective program.
  • FSC Athletics Ranked 25th in 2019-20 Helper Helper Final Report

    LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College Department of Athletics was recognized for its community service efforts over the 2019-20 academic year, logging 4,313 total hours since July 1, 2019. As a department the Mocs ranked 25th among NCAA Division II schools nationally, and was the highest-ranked Sunshine State Conference member institution.

  • All Florida Southern College Athletic Facilities Closed

    LAKELAND, Fla. – Until further notice, all athletic facilities at Florida Southern College are closed. This includes the Jenkins Field House, Gilbert Gymnasium, the Barnett Athletic Complex, Moccasin Field, Chris Bellotto Field, Henley Field, the Ruthven Courts, the Wellness Center and the Hollis Wellness Center Pool, Warden Tennis Courts, and all locker rooms.
  • SSC Cancels All Spring 2020 League Competitions and Championships

    MELBOURNE, Fla. - In alignment with yesterday’s NCAA Board of Governors Resolution, the Sunshine State Conference has canceled all league competitions and championships for the spring 2020 semester, effectively immediately. Member institutions will exercise institutional discretion as to practice and regular-season non-conference competition in all sports for the spring 2020 semester. This decision was unanimously agreed upon by the SSC Presidents Council and SSC Athletic Directors Council with the health, safety, and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and campus communities in mind.
  • NCAA Cancels all Winter and Spring Championships

    LAKELAND – The NCAA has issued a statement regarding all winter and sport championships that will cancel all championships. Hence, the NCAA Men’s Basketball South Region Championship, originally scheduled to be held at the Jenkins Field House at Florida Southern, has been canceled.
  • Conner and Cowart Lead FSC Softball to Doubleheader Sweep of Minnesota-Duluth

    LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College softball swept the University of Minnesota-Duluth in a doubleheader on Wednesday night at Chris Bellotto Field. The Mocs used a rally in the seventh inning to earn a walk-off victory. Strong pitching in the second game led FSC to a 4-1 victory. The Mocs are now 10-14 as UMD moves to 9-12 in 2020.
  • Softball Wins First Conference Game of 2020 on Alumni Weekend; Splits Doubleheader With Tampa

    LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College softball picked up its first Sunshine State Conference victory of the 2020 season with a 7-2 win in game one. The Mocs rallied in the seventh inning but fell short as they dropped the second game, 4-3. With many alumni in attendance from the past 40 years, the current Mocs team put together a day of great softball featuring quality hitting and pitching. Southern is now 8-14 overall and 1-8 in SSC play while Tampa holds an 18-6 overall record and a 9-3 record in league play.
  • Beacham Tosses Sixth Complete Game In 2020 as FSC Softball Drops Series Opener to Tampa

    LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College softball opened the home portion of its Sunshine State Conference schedule with a 2-0 loss to the University of Tampa. Southern will face the Spartans again on Saturday for a doubleheader at Chris Bellotto Field. The Mocs struggled to get anything going as they had a string of 15 up and 15 down. The Spartans starting pitcher took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The Mocs are now 7-13 overall and 0-7 in SSC play while Tampa holds a 17-5 overall record and an 8-2 record in conference play.
  • Mo Triner Set To Become Next Florida Southern Head Softball Coach

    LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College is set to name assistant softball coach Mo Triner as the second head softball coach in program history. Triner will take the helm from legendary softball coach Chris Bellotto who has announced that the 2020 season will be her final season in the dugout for the Moccasins. Triner has been the primary pitching coach at Florida Southern since she started in the fall. Prior to arriving in Lakeland, she spent nearly 12 years of service to her alma mater the University of South Florida, 2003-2015.
  • FSC Softball's Late Rally in Game Two Not Enough as Lander Takes Both Games of Doubleheader

    LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College softball hosted Lander University for a midday doubleheader at Chris Bellotto Field on Tuesday. The Mocs struggled in game one and early on in game two. Southern (7-12) limited the Bearcats (15-2-1) to just two runs in the first game and saw the visitors put up seven runs in the fifth inning of game two.
  • Southern Softball Falls in Doubleheader at Nova Southeastern

    FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College softball team jumped out to a commanding 9-0 lead in the top of the second in game one. Southern (7-10, 0-6 SSC) quickly saw their lead evaporate as Nova Southeastern University (12-9, 3-6 SSC) scored in the final four innings to take game one 11-9. The Sharks would rally in the bottom of the sixth inning in game two to complete the weekend sweep of the Mocs.
  • Mocs Softball Drops 3-2 Decision at Nova Southeastern

    FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College softball team suffered a 3-2 loss at Nova Southeastern on Friday night, in Game One of the three-game series. The final two games will be played tomorrow, Saturday, February 29, at NSU. The Mocs (7-8, 0-4 SSC) scored both runs in the first inning, while allowing single runs in the second, fifth, and sixth innings to the Sharks (10-9, 1-6 SSC).

    LAKELAND, Fla. - Legendary Florida Southern College softball head coach Chris Bellotto has announced her retirement, effective at the end of the 2020 spring season. Bellotto is the only head coach the Mocs have known in the 40 years of the program's existence. Current assistant coach Mo Triner will take the helm at that time.
  • Southern Softball Uses Hot Hitting on Cold Night to Sweep Doubleheader vs. Western Ontario

    LAKELAND, Fla. – On a cold and windy February night, with temperatures in the mid-40’s, at Chris Bellotto Field, Florida Southern College softball swept a doubleheader from Western Ontario. Southern cruised in game one riding the arm of senior pitcher Kristen Beacham, who scattered nine hits and a single run over seven innings pitched. The Mocs (7-7) improved their record back to .500 as they picked up wins number six and seven on the season.

The Moccasins (5-5, 0-3 SSC) were run-ruled in the first game and then blew a 1-0 lead late in the second game to the ninth-ranked Panthers of Florida Tech (4-7, 3-0 SSC) on Saturday.

    MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Southern College Softball pitcher Kristen Beacham was named the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday, February 10. This marks the senior's first conference honors since her sophomore season in 2018.
  • Softball Defeats No. 4 West Florida and Molloy on the Final Day of the 2020 FIT Invitational

    VIERA, Fla. – Sunday marked the final day of the 2020 Florida Tech Invitational, Florida Southern College softball took on No. 4 West Florida in the first game and closed out the tournament with a midday game against Molloy. The Moccasins (5-2) swept the competition on Sunday defeating No. 4 West Florida (6-3), 1-0, and closing the day with a run-rule 8-0 victory over Molloy (0-5).
  • Moccasin Softball Splits Pair of Contests Against the Chargers

    VIERA, Fla. – On the second day of the 2020 Florida Tech Invitational, Florida Southern College softball split two 3-1 decisions against the Chargers. The Moccasins defeated the Chargers of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, 3-1, and finished the day with a 3-1 loss to the Chargers of the University New Haven. Going 1-1 on the day, the Mocs moved to 3-2 on the season while the UAH Chargers are now 5-3 following a night victory over Molloy and the Chargers of UNH are now 2-2 on the season.

    VIERA, Fla. – Day one of the 2020 Florida Tech Invitational started off with a Florida Southern College softball victory. The Mocs (2-1) won their second 1-0 game this week. The offense rallied in the seventh inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Tigers of West Alabama (2-4).

  • Florida Southern’s 2020 Softball Season Opens with Doubleheader Against Ursuline

    LAKELAND, Fla. -  On February 3, 2020, the Florida Southern College softball team will open its 40th season in program history. Head Coach Chris Bellotto will also begin her 40th season as the leader of the Moccasins when they host Ursuline for two games. The Moccasins, who went 16-23 a season ago, will look to bounce back this season as they will play seven games in the first week of the new season. The Mocs return 11 student-athletes from last seasons' team, including second-team All-Sunshine State Conference third baseman Celia Higgins. Bellotto has brought in six new student-athletes who should make an immediate impact, including Jessica Smith, a Division-II transfer from Queens (N.C.) University.

    LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College Department of Athletics is saddened to report the passing of former Sports Information Director Bill Turnage. He passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at his home in Warrensburg, Missouri. He was 72 years old.

  • Florida Southern Softball Selected Eighth in Sunshine State Conference Preseason Coaches Poll

    MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Southern College softball has been selected to finish eighth in the 2020 Sunshine State Conference preseason coaches poll. The SSC coaches select Rollins College as the preseason number one for the first time since 2015. With 93 points and seven first-place votes in the poll, the Tars are expected to grab the program’s fifth league title since softball became a league sport in 1985.
  • Florida Southern Places in Top-10 Percent of Division II With Academic Success Rate of 90 Percent

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Florida Southern College athletics continues to promote student-athlete success in the classroom as the department earned a Division II Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90 for the 2012 cohort, the NCAA released on Wednesday. The 90 percent mark is tied for the highest mark that the department has ever earned, with the previous record set during the 2010 six-year cohort.
