MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Southern College Softball pitcher Kristen Beacham was named the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday, February 10. This marks the senior's first conference honors since her sophomore season in 2018.
Beacham has stepped up big for the Moccasins to start the 2020 season as she has gone 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 19.1 innings pitched. She made her first start of the season with four scoreless innings before giving way to the bullpen. The senior made her way through the lineup of No. 18 Alabama-Huntsville scattering just two hits over five innings pitched and struck out two while walking one in a 1-0 victory, her first since the 2018 season. She came back the next day and limited a hot-hitting fourth-ranked West Florida team to just three hits in five innings pitched and sent down four. She closed out her weekend with another five-inning shutout victory over Molloy, 8-0 - five innings. Over the weekend she recorded five 1-2-3 innings. Her 3-0 record already surpasses her record last season as she went 0-5 a year ago. She held a West Florida team averaging 4.56 runs per game to zero and held the Argos +.400 hitters to a combined 0-for-6 day. Beacham has pitched the Mocs to a 5-2 record overall and she picked up both victories over ranked opponents over the weekend.
Beacham and the Moccasins are back on the diamond this weekend as they open up Sunshine State Conference action with a three-game set at Florida Tech (Feb. 14-15).
