MELBOURNE, Fla. - After putting up a career-high 32 points in a win over Nova Southeastern to help Florida Southern College women's basketball go 2-0 last week, Julia Jenike has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Jenike averaged 26.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game as the Moccasins defeated Florida Tech (72-57) and Nova Southeastern (76-69 OT) in their first two games 2020.
In last Thursday's win at Florida Tech, Jenike poured in 20 points to go along with five rebounds, two steals, and an assist. She followed that up with the best performance of her career with 32 points, five rebounds, and six assists in an overtime win against NSU. She scored eight of the Mocs' 14 points in overtime, including a three-pointer to put Southern up by six (74-68) with just 33 seconds left.
Jenike shot a combined 48.7 percent (19-of-39) from the floor and was 7-of-17 from long range in the two victories. Her 32 points against NSU are the most by any Florida Southern player since Camille Giardina poured in 33 in an 87-68 win over Embry-Riddle in the 2018 SSC Tournament Championship on March 4, 2018.
She has now earned two weekly SSC honors after previously being named as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 18. The Mocs have tallied three weekly conference honors this season as Bekki Kalaydjiev also earned Defensive Player of the Week honors on Nov. 25.
Florida Southern returns to action on Wednesday at Rollins and travels to Eckerd on Jan. 15 before returning home to face Palm Beach Atlantic on Jan. 18.
