Higgins Fires 71; Mocs Rally for Third at Battle of Old South

BLUFFTON, SC - Tori Higgins shot a career-best 71 in today's final round for a 146 two-day total while Abbey Williams had a 73 to finish two strokes back as Florida Southern rallied to finish third at Battle at Old South played here at the Old South Golf Links. The Moccasins totaled a two-day 594 to finish 12 strokes behind Savannah Art & Design which shot 290 to win the event with a 582 team score.

Higgins, whose previous career low was a 72 recorded three times last season, shaved four strokes off her first-round 75 to tie Catawba's Kaley Barts for seventh place. The pair trailed the individual winner, Amanda Jakobsson of Saint Leo, who fired a four-under 68 today to win the event with a 140 two-round score.

Williams, who shot a 75 on Saturday, finished in a five-way tie for 12th with a two-day 148. Amanda Gartrell turned in a 76 today to finish in a tie for 21st with a six-over 150 while Madison Wetzel also tied for 12th with a 74 today after shooting 76 on Saturday.

Shelby Lewis, playing as a individual, had an 80 for a 156 total to tie for 50th while Ashley Zagers had an 81 to tie for 57th with a 158.

Florida Southern had been in seventh place with a 300 after the opening round.

The Moccasins will play next at the GolfRank Invitational on Oct. 9-10. The event, hosted by Nova Southeastern, will be played at the PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
