HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Amanda Gartrell, Loren Perez, and Lacey Tucker each fired an even-par 72 to tie for third place at the Golfweek DII Invitational, helping put Florida Southern College women's golf at the top of the team leaderboard after one round at the Las Colinas Championship Course at Mission Inn Resort & Club on Monday.
The Moccasins finished +6 (294) as a team through the first 18 holes of play, leading second-place Dallas Baptist (+9 | 297) by three strokes. Both teams were well ahead of third-place Saint Leo (+16 | 304), while Lee (+19 | 306) and St. Edward's (+20 | 308) rounded out the top five.
Gartrell, Perez, and Tucker were in a four-way tie for third with Megan Sabol of North Georgia after the first round. Gartrell fired a -2 (33) over the first nine holes, with birdies on No. 5 and No. 9, but bogeyed Nos. 17 and 18 to finish even for the day. Perez birdied and bogeyed once on both the front nine and back nine to finish at 72, and Tucker shot a +1 (36) on the first nine holes but was -1 (36) on the back nine to finish even for the day.
Nathalie Svensson (+6) finished the day tied for 22nd while Shelby Lewis (+8) was tied for 36th, but both are well within striking distance of the top 10 heading into the final day of action on Tuesday. As a team, the Mocs recorded 64 pars through the first 18 holes, the most of any team, and were fourth with nine birdies.
The 12-team field will finish action on Tuesday with a pair of rounds.
