ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's golf team had a successful Day One of the World Golf Invitational, hosted by Flagler College and held today at the Slammer and Squire Golf Course. The Mocs posted a combined score of 302 on the day, good enough for third place, only two strokes off the lead.
Rollins College is in first place after Round One, with a team score of 300. Nova Southeastern is in second at 301, followed by the Mocs. Embry-Riddle (309) and Lynn (310) round out the top five.
Leading the way for Southern was Nathalie Svensson, whose par-72 performance tied her for the second best round of the day. Sun Hwang was the second best performer for Southern, and is tied for tenth place overall, with a +3, 75. Shelby Lewis shot a +4, 76, the 17th best performance of the day, followed by Amanda Gartrell, who is tied for 28th at 79 (+7).
This is the first spring competition for Florida Southern, who last competed in late October.
Day Two of the WGI is slated for Tuesday, February 11.
