Cantor, Flemming Set School Records at UT Meet

TAMPA, FL - Freshman Addison Cantor set a school record in the 5,000-meter while fellow freshman Hannah Flemming broke the school record in the 1,500-meter as the Florida Southern women's track team competed Saturday at the UT Ryan McCall Invite here at Pepin Stadium.

Cantor finished third in the 5,000-meter run to set a Florida Southern record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:55.70, knocking almost 31 seconds off the previous record of 18:26.66 set by Carolyne Kwambai at the UNF Osprey Challenge on April 19, 2009. Junior Hannah Nelson also eclipsed Kwambai's mark with a time of 18:20.94 to finish seventh in the same race. Junior Aleksa Guerra turned in an 18:32.04 to post the now fifth-fastest 5,000 time in Moccasin history, finishing ninth. Freshman Ysabella Guerra was 19th with an 18:58.50 while freshman Stephanie Hansen was 21st at 19:01.64. Also competing were Allison Wright (19:16.95), Jolene Vergauwen (19:42.38), Anna Brook Opalinski (19:48.11), Amber Winton (20:01.92), and Madison Santore (20:47.46).

Flemming took third place in the 1,500-meter race with a school record time with a 4:49.82 time, topping the previous mark of 4:51.60 set by Kwambai at the Tampa Distance Carnival on April 11, 2009. Junior Kassidy Watkins placed 11th with a personal-best 5:02.28 while freshman Michaela Peterson posted a 5:30.40 time and fellow freshman Jessica Spencer recorded a 5:56.37 mark.

For Flemming, it was her second school record is as many meets as she set broke the mile record on 5:21.99 at the Embry-Riddle First Chance/Last Chance Meet on Feb. 17.

In the 800-meter, Mackenzie Wills posted a 2:37.16 to place 26th.

Florida Southern will compete next on March 17 at the UCF Black & Gold Challenge in Orlando.
