In a clash of nationally-ranked teams, #25 Eckerd rallied from a 2-0 deficit to upset the #17 Moccasins, 16-25, 19-25, 27-25, 25-21, 18-16, Saturday night at Jenkins Field House.
The Tritons were led by a 21-kill performance from Arianna Chinn, who hit .419 for the match. Lydee Benoit added 13 kills and 18 digs, while Taylor Manning produced 12 kills and hit .500.
Julia Borecka led the Moccasins with 20 kills and hit .462, while Anne Pietkiewicz added 15 kills and hit .353.Â Anna Niebuhr recorded a career-high 21 digs from her libero position and Kendall Wilde delivered a career-high 6 aces.
The win was the Tritons' first in 33 tries against the Moccasins in Jenkins Field House and improved their record to 9-6, 3-3 in the SSC. The Mocs, suffering their third straight loss, fell to 10-7, 3-3 in the SSC.
FSC was one point away from winning the match, leading 25-24 in the third set, but two kills by Chinn and a Moccasin error gave Eckerd a 27-25 win. In the fourth set, the Tritons broke a 4-4 tie with four straight points and led the rest of the way to force the deciding fifth set.
In the fifth set, the Mocs rallied from a 12-8 deficit and tied it at 13-13. The teams exchanged the next three points before a kill by Chinn and a Moccasin error gave the Tritons the win.
Tuesday the Moccasins play at Saint Leo in a 7 p.m. match. Saint Leo took over sole possession of first place in the SSC with a three-set road win at #4 Tampa Saturday.
