Zamot Runs Personal Best as Southern Finishes 11th in Season Opener


GAINESVILLE, Fla. -Sarah Zamot finished 14th as Florida Southern College's women's cross country finished 11th at the UF Mountain Dew Invite in Gainesville, Fla.

Zamot turned in a personal best time of 18:44.3, taking 15 seconds off her previous best (18:59.2, Oct. 20, 2018).

Hannah Nelson was the second Moccasin to finish, coming in 42nd place with a 19:28.8 time. Ysabella Guerra finished third for Southern with a time of 19:31.1, fast enough for 44th overall. Hannah Flemming (20:07.0, 91st) and Anna Brook Opalinski (20:55.8, 133rd) rounded out the top five for Florida Southern.

Florida Southern totaled 292 points as host Florida won the meet with 30 points. Tampa, the meets runner-up, led Division II teams with 107 points. Embry-Riddle (240 points, 7th) and Saint Leo (266 points, 10th) also finished above the Mocs.

After a week off for training, the team will split to tackle the FLRunners Invitational at Holloway Park on Sept. 27 and the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. on Sept. 28.
