LAKELAND, Fla. - Sarah Zamot finished 10th as Florida Southern College women's cross country finished fourth at the 2019 NCAA South Region Championships, held at Holloway Park in Lakeland. The Mocs fourth-place finish tied last year's South Region Championships and matches the highest team finish since 2007, where that squad also took fourth.
Zamot, Alayna Goll, Ysabella Guerra and Madison Santore all set personal records at the South Region Championships while Hannah Flemming, Hannah Nelson and Addison Cantor had their best races of the year.
Zamot knocked 5.7 seconds off her best time to cross the line in 22:33.3, enough for 10th overall. Flemming was the second finisher for the Mocs as she finished 25th overall with a time of 23:14.7. Goll finished third for Southern as she crossed the line just 1.7 seconds behind Flemming in 26th place with a time of 23:16.4.
Nelson turned in her best 6K time since the 2016 SSC Championships in her 23:20.8 performance, which was good enough for 31st while Guerra crossed the line in 23:32.2, enough for 38th place and a personal record. Cantor finished in 50th for the Mocs with a 24:08.9 while Santore set a personal record as she crossed the line in 24:59.0, in 70th place.
Florida Southern finished with 125 points while Lee (Tenn.) took home the trophy with 41 points. Tampa finished second with 61 points while Saint Leo finished third with 101 points. Union (Tenn.) rounded out the top 5 with 163 points. Lee (Tenn.), Tampa and Saint Leo automatically qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships.
